DLG awards three SCHAUMANN TMR and PMR stabilisation products

Aerobic stability in mixed rations is key to preventing reheating and the associated propagation of yeast and mould fungi. The DLG test centre for farm equipment and inputs has awarded a quality seal to each of the three SCHAUMANN products SCHAUMASIL 5.0, SILOSTAR LIQUID and SILOSTAR TMR PROTECT in the TMR and PMR stabiliser category.

Reheating – a decisive cause of declining feed intakes

As soon as the ration temperature reaches a level that is 2°C higher than the ambient temperature, it is classed as reheating. It is caused by a heavy proliferation of yeast and mould in mixed ration. The oxygen introduced during mixing and the contents of the ration such as sugar and starch provide the optimum conditions for these pests. Rations with a high proportion of easily digestible carbohydrates or added water are particularly susceptible. Warm temperatures increase the risk even further.

As a result of decomposition processes, yeast and mould fungi cause changes to the smell of the ration, which leads to decreasing feed acceptance. Studies show that reheated feed reduces intake by over 10% (see Fig. 1). Substance decomposition and conversion also cause high energy losses.

The DLG test centre for farm equipment and inputs has awarded a quality seal to each of the three SCHAUMANN products SCHAUMASIL 5.0, SILOSTAR LIQUID and SILOSTAR TMR PROTECT. It was the first time products from the TMR and PMR stabiliser product group had been awarded. The products improve the aerobic stability of pre-mixed rations, thus promoting the feed intake, health and performance capacity of animals. The results clearly demonstrate that SCHAUMASIL 5.0, SILOSTAR LIQUID and SILOSTAR TMR PROTECT stabilise mixed rations (Fig. 2) and suppress their yeast content (Fig. 3).

Summary: Aerobic stability in mixed ration safeguards feed intake

Only an aerobically stable TMR can ensure palatability and high feed intakes. Decisive factors for nutrient provision and therefore the health and milk performance of cows. An insufficient feed intake and the energy deficit it causes leads to metabolic and fertility issues, particularly at the start of lactation. SCHAUMANN offers three reliable products catering to different initial conditions

SCHAUMASIL 5.0 – User-friendly acid combination

Logo SCHAUMASIL 5.0
SCHAUMASIL 5.0 with a DLG certificate in the TMR/PMR stabiliser category

SCHAUMASIL 5.0 offers effective protection from reheating with its innovative combination of multiple components. This liquid feed acid is user- and material-friendly thanks to its low pH value of 5.0.

SILOSTAR LIQUID – Highly effective specialist product

Logo Silostar Liquid with DLG quality certificate
SILOSTAR LIQUID with a DLG certificate in the TMR/PMR stabiliser category

This specialist liquid product secures the aerobic stability of high-quality silage. SILOSTAR LIQUID can be used as either a surface or complete treatment to suppress yeast and mould fungi in silage. Due to its neutral pH value, SILOSTAR LIQUID is extremely user-friendly and non-corrosive.

SILOSTAR TMR PROTECT – Material-friendly acid granulate

Logo SILOSTAR PROTECT TMR
SILOSTAR PROTECT TMR holds a DLG certificate in the TMR/PMR stabiliser category

Our SILOSTAR TMR PROTECT acid granulate is very easy to work with, requiring no special dosing equipment. It significantly reduces the proportion of harmful yeast and mould in the ration, maintaining its energy content and palatability.
