Gut Hülsenberg: With high lifetime performance to sustainable milk production

Economy and ecology are not mutually exclusive. In cooperation with BAES a case study of life cycle assessment has been created and the result are: The milk production in Gut Hülsenberg has significantly less impact on the environment than that of the average farm in Schleswig-Holstein.

The particularly high lifetime performance of the herd in Gut Hülsenberg of 19 kg milk contributes to the fact that less resources are necessary for restocking. Furthermore higher milk yields generally result in a more effective conversion of feed nutrients in usable animal products and reduce the excretion of nitrogen, phosphorus, methane and other substances per kg milk.

The aim must therefore be: rearing of healthy, well-developed and high-performance dairy cows as well as their use over many years. Gut Hülsenberg shows impressively, that these aims with best nutritional and feeding management and an adapted liquid manure management are feasible. Such a sustainable milk production is ecologically reasonable and ensures economic success.
